From it's humble beginning as a loose affiliation of five swim teams in the 1960's, the Summer Swimming League of North Central West Virginia has emerged into a federation of seventeen aquatics teams from over fifteen cities in eight counties. Touted as one of the Mid-Atlantic's strongest summer programs, the league has grown into a breeding ground for state champions, junior- and senior-national qualifyers, All-Americans, and athletes attending the Olympic trials. Over 500 swimmers call the league home and all converge on Stealey Recreation Center in Clarksburg every July to vie for the league's top honors. Over the years, countless talented athletes have grown up in the league. Some choose to go on to swim for Divison I college programs, others choose to take over the reigns and coach at the interscholastic, intercollegiate, and summer league levels. NCWV has seen many athletes make a lasting impression over the past three decades. The WIlliams family (formerly Buckhannon-Wesleyan) of Catherine "Splash," Danny, David, and Tappan made a lasting impression along with Jay Molle (Lake Floyd) in the 1970's, setting and breaking over 11 league records. The 1980's brought new life with Steve and Jenny Thompson (Fairmont Aquatic Club), Brian and Adam Zundell (Fairmont Field Club), Jodi Klebez (Buckhannon-Wesleyan), Eric Kime (Fairmont Aquatic Club), Brian Zickefoose (Bridgeport), Vickie Schmidt (Stealey), and John Belcastro (Bridgeport).
