| Experience the University City's one-of-a-kind Summer swimming program: Started as a grassroots swim program with 17 athletes in 1997, Morgantown United Aquatic Club has experienced phenomenol growth. Today MUAC boasts a roster of 115 athletes ranging from ages 5-18. The team, sponsored by Morgantown's Board of Parks and Recreation Council (BOPARC), practices three days a week in BOPARC's Krepps Pool facility. The 25-yard heated pool and adjoining recreation area serve as a staging area for aquatic development in the team's six age groups, ranging from 6 and under to high school. Athletes are placed in groups according to both age and ability and have the opportunity to swim at a higher level if they qualify. The team competes on average twice a week in the USS-sanctioned North Central West Virginia Summer Swimming League. Meets are held in the Morgantown, Fairmont, and Clarksburg vicinity. All home meets are scheduled at Krepps Pool in Suncrest. Athletes are encouraged to have fun while improving their stroke technique and endurance. Coaches keep the environment competitive but comfortable and do their best to administer individualized help and personal attention. Coaches hope to instill the love of swimming in every athlete who passes through the MUAC program and encourage lifelong participation in the sport. Membership on the team is open to any Morgantown area resident ages 5-18. Each athlete is expected to be able to swim 25 yards without stopping upon registration to the team. Individuals are not required to know all four strokes nor proper stroke mechanics, but a general knowledge of "how to swim" is preferred. All Morgantown area high school swimmers are also encouraged to join MUAC as a way to hone thier skills, improve technique, and keep in shape. |
